LCDR Matthew A. Mitchelson embodies a life of service, leadership, and faith, with a career spanning the military, nonprofit sector, ministry, and coaching.

As a U.S. Navy officer, he has dedicated himself to empowering others and fostering resilience. Matthew’s academic achievements include degrees from the U.S. Naval Academy (BS, Oceanography), Thomas Edison State University (BSAST, Nuclear Engineering Technology), the Naval Postgraduate School (MS, Systems Engineering), and the University of Southern California (MBA). He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Reformed Theology at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, preparing for a transition into pastoral ministry and biblical teaching.

In the military, Matthew serves as the Assistant Officer in Charge at PSNS & IMF Det. Everett, where he advocates for the PACNORWEST Navy community and champions initiatives like CONUS COLA for sailors.

His commitment to the military and veteran communities continues through nonprofit work. As the former cofounder and CEO of the Mend the Heart Foundation and the current Vice President of Operation Hunt 4 Heroes, Matthew provides outdoor therapy experiences that inspire renewal and healing.

Since 2014, Matthew has been deeply invested in youth and sports, coaching football and recently launching a coed flag football program at Northshore Christian Academy. His approach integrates teamwork, discipline, and biblical values, reflecting his faith-driven mission.

A passionate outdoorsman, Matthew enjoys teaching conservation and sharing nature with his family. Alongside his wife Brianna, a fellow Navy veteran, and their four children, he is committed to building a life centered on service, community, and faith.

As a member of the Exit12 Board of Directors, Matthew brings his leadership experience and passion for empowering others, helping advance the organization’s mission to inspire hope and transformation.
